In this modern world in which information can be recorded and transmitted at speeds up to approximately the speed of light most knowledge is gained second hand.
Each living man and woman possesses more knowledge that feels empirical about the whole of the rest of the world that could have been dreamed of 200 and more years ago.
There is, however, one major problem with this: the knowledge may feel empirical, but in fact it is second hand, indirect, and comes in a form as translated by others, and with many artefacts of the imaginations of those involved in its transmission often indecipherable from the truth.
The end result is one that may, and does, consist of information that would convey a completely different picture of the world to that which would depict a true likeness of a big picture of reality, of the real world.
